Formalities :
Visa:
Except for the Indians Nationals, all other citizens must
obtain a valid visa from any of the Royal Nepalese Embassies
or the Consulates abroad. 30 days visa can also be obtained
at the airport or check posts after filling in the relevant
application form affixed with two copies of Passport size
photograph and paying fee of US$ 30.00 per person as per the
prevailing exchange rates. This can also be extended for a
further period of three weeks with no other additional cost.
Passport
:
A valid passport is required for all nationals, except Indians.
Currency
:
Import of Indian currency by foreigner is strictly prohibited.
Any other currency either in traveler's cheque or cash can
be brought in unlimited quantity, provided it is declared
upon arrival.
All visitors (except Indians) will be handed a form on which
his monetary transaction during his stay in Nepal will be
recorded. The same should be handed over at the Airport at
the time of departure and generally 15% of the total amount
exchanged can be converted back from Nepalese rupees to US
Dollars.
Custom
:
All baggage's must be identified and have to pass through
customs formality inspection on arrival. Personal effects
are allowed in duty free. Dutiable goods such as camera with
12 plates or 5 rolls of films, one bottle of liquor, 200 sticks
of cigarettes, one tent and camping equipments are allowed
free of duty.
Climate
:
The climate of Nepal varies from area to area depending upon
the topography. A visit to Nepal is possible all the year
round, but, activities like Mountain Flight, excursions to
Chitwan Valley, rafting and trekking operate from October
to May. Kathmandu valley’s temperature even in winter
is above freezing.
Clothing
:
Warm clothing are required from November to February and tropical
wear from March to October.
Local
Currency :
In Nepal, 100 paisa make one Rupee. The denominations of varied
column currency notes (Rupees) are available in 1, 2, 5, 10,
20, 25, 50, 100, 500 and 1000. Similarly, coins are available
in 5, 10, 25, 50 & 1 Rupee which are in circulation.
Religion
:
The major religions of Nepal are Hinduism, Buddhism and Christianity,
but the harmonious blend between Hindu and Buddhist is unique.
Therefore, 97% of Nepalese are both Hindu and Buddhist and
rest 3 % are of other different religions.
