Wild
Life Jungle Safari :
While
the high Himalaya makes up Nepal's northern region,
the southern lowland known as the Terai is covered with dense
tropical jungles teeming with diverse wildlife and exotic
birds. Here you will find some of the most exciting safari
destinations in the world. You will be going into deep jungle
on elephant back or four-wheel drive vehicle to view wild
animals in their natural habitat. Other thrills are canoe
rides on the Jungle Rivers, nature walks, bird watching excursions,
and village tours.
Among
the 14 national parks and wildlife reserves in the Kingdom,
the Royal Chitwan National Park (932 sq. km) is the most popular
safari destination. More than 43 species of animals are found
in Chitwan. The endangered one-horned rhino, Royal Bengal
tiger, Gharial crocodile, four-horned antelope, striped hyena,
and the Gangetic dolphin are the main attractions here. The
best part is that it is close to Kathmandu and easily accessible
(only 165 km overland), and Bharatpur airport adjoining the
park is a mere 25-minute flight away (there are daily flights
from Kathmandu). Many adventurers also choose to go down by
raft. However you go, a jungle safari is an experience you
will remember for a long time.
Chitwan National Park:
Only
4 ½ hours of scenic driving from Kathmandu (or an exciting
white water raft trip down the Trishuli River), the
Chitwan National Park is the oldest wildlife reserve of Nepal.
It is a primal place teeming with exotic flora and fauna.
The
park has more than 40 species of mammals, including the Royal
Bengal tiger and the one-horned rhinoceros. Elephant Safari,
Jeep Safari, dug-out canoe ride, nature walk are apart of
Jungle activities.

Bardia
National Park:
In
some ways Bardia is like Chitwan, the major difference is
the degree of isolation and the limited number of visitors. The
main disadvantage of Bardia is that it takes a day of travelling
to get to or from Kathmandu.
"Though it is the largest" untouched wilderness
area in the Terai. There is better chance to see the tiger
there than anywhere else. Most of the 968 Sqkm park is covered
by open sal forest, with a balanced mixture of grassland,
savannah and riverine forest. More than 30 different mammals
and 250 species of birds have been recorded in the Park.
Koshi
Tappu wildlife Reserve:
It
lies behind the Saptakoshi Barrage which is far from Kathmandu
but a perfect alternative to the other National Parks for
Nature and Wildlife. The place can be followed after the Eastern
Himalayan region trekking and Sun Koshi River Rafting. It
would be an experience of a life time to be in the most peaceful
and relaxing.
One
of the incredible things about Nepal is that there are lowland
jungles within sight of the snow. Just half an hour’s
flight or 04/05 hours scenic drive watching from Kathmandu
is the Royal Chitwan game preserve where there are jungle
camps for wild life. In any of these one rides elephants through
tall grasses to surprise rhino, deer & tiger. By the night
one can sometimes sit over kills made by tiger & leopard.
You will be taken by canoe on great river to view the rare
fish eating crocodiles & migratory birds. Its exalting
magical would all the more amazing because just above the
tall elephant grass & the tree are the mountains.
